    6-day lockdown in Delhi: Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced a six-day lockdown in the Capital. He said it is being done to prevent a collapse of the city’s health system.

The lockdown, he said, will come into effect at 10 pm on Monday, and be in force till 5am next Monday.

The 6-day lockdown will come into effect from 10 pm today and will stay in place till  5 am April 26 (next Monday), the chief minister said, adding that essential services will be permitted during the period, reports Timesnownews.com.

“Delhi’s health system has reached its limits. I don’t say that the system has collapsed but it has reached its limits,” Kejriwal said in a press briefing.

“I won’t say that the health system has collapsed but it has reached its limits,” he said.

The announcement came a day after Delhi reported its highest-ever single-day Covid-19 spike of over 25,462 cases.

The CM said essential services, food services, medical services will be exempted. Weddings can be held with a gathering of only 50 guests and passes will be issued separately for it. A detailed order will be issued shortly, he said, reported the media.

Kejriwal urged migrant workers to not leave the city. He said: “I appeal to you with folded hands. It’s a small lockdown, only for 6 days. Don’t leave Delhi. I’m very hopeful that we won’t need to further extend the lockdown…The government will take care of you.”

Kejriwal concluded the press conference by saying: “In the next 6 days, we will make arrangements for more beds in Delhi. We thank the Central government for helping us. The lockdown period will be used to arrange oxygen, medicine. I request everyone to follow the guidelines.”
