“There was fear in the area, and I also came out of m house of curiousity,” said a resident who wished to remain anonymous.

Another resident said he rushed out of his house after noticing the fire brigade. Initially, he thought there was a fire in a nearby building. It wasn’t until he stepped outside that he realised the police were dealing with the untraceable suitcase.

“People were scared as the bag had been lying there for over an hour. The police forces arrived on time and started their work. After inspecting the bag, they found only clothes. It seems a resident might have forgotten their bag while taking a cab or another vehicle,” said another resident.

Another resident confirmed that the unattended bag at Okhla Vihar was full of clothes. The bomb squad, fire brigade, and police officials all arrived to inspect the contents of the bag. According to one more resident, with the New Year just days away, many initially thought it could be a prank or a serious issue. Thankfully, nothing dangerous was found.

Though located in Delhi, the national capital of India, the area lacks basic amenities, and its roads and other civic infrastructure are in poor condition. Residents have repeatedly raised their voices for improved infrastructure, but so far, leaders have failed to deliver on their promises.
The area is once again in the grip of election fever, with the Delhi Assembly elections 2025 expected to take place in February.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has already announced its candidate, and residents are eagerly waiting for other political parties to announce their candidates as well. This will help residents make up their minds, as many are unhappy with the performance of AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan. They lamented that he has failed to fulfill his poll promises. However, after getting the ticket for third time in a row, Khan has started cleanliness drive in the area to win hearts and minds of residents.
