SIR: Preliminary voter mapping camp held in Jamia Nagar; have you got your mapping done?

A preliminary voter mapping exercise was conducted in Jamia Nagar on Saturday at the D-Block RWA office, according to residents. Some residents turned up to get their voter mapping done.

However, a resident said the mapping exercise is currently underway.

The resident added said one such small camp was organised a few days ago in N-Block as well, but many Okhla residents are still not aware of the exercise as they are waiting for the SIR date announcement by the Chief Election Commission. The SIR is yet to start in Delhi.

A to D Block AFE RWA post bearer Pasha told the OT that the mapping exercise camp was held for one day. “In case residents face any difficulties, they can get in touch with us, and we will try to put them in touch with the seven Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in the A to D Block,” he said.

A resident said people can check their names in the SIR 2002 voter list, use the voter ID search by name option to verify details, find out the documents required for SIR, and download the SIR form online if needed.

Poll officials said the 2002 electoral roll will serve as the benchmark for the upcoming SIR in Delhi. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has already uploaded the 2002 list on the website of the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer for reference.

A BLO told the OT that a person’s name has to be present in both the 2002 and 2025 electoral rolls. The SIR exercise has already been carried out in Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andaman & Nicobar, and Uttar Pradesh.

A few months ago, a report in a national media pointed out that a “preliminary voter mapping exercise conducted ahead of the forthcoming nationwide SIR has revealed that more than 70 per cent of voters registered in Delhi’s 2002 electoral roll do not feature in the 2025 rolls”.

“The voter mapping process is still underway and is likely to be completed soon. But so far, around 71 per cent of names in the current electoral roll do not match with those in the 2002 list, which was the last time a SIR was held,” a senior poll panel official said as reported by New Indian Express.

Officials said the remaining voters will have to verify their residency using documents specified by the ECI. The procedure will be the same which was adopted during the SIR in Bihar.

The lowest match was recorded in Kirari in North West Delhi, followed by Badarpur (12 per cent), Burari (12.25 per cent), Okhla (15.18 per cent), Vikaspuri (16.32 per cent), Matiala (17.57 per cent) and Karawal Nagar (19.3 per cent), said the report published in the end of October, 2025.

It is understood that that number might change as now more and more residents are getting aware of it and get the mapping done.
