Jamali had won the 2012 polls from here. Later on in 2017, he also won the seat on BSP ticket. The Jamia alumnus quit the party on November 25.
After distancing himself from the BSP, the buzz a few days ago was that he might join the SP or the Congress, a party worker aware of the development told the OT on the condition of anonymity.
If Jamali wins this time around then he will do so for the third time.
In the political ring of this region, the BJP has fielded Arvind Jaiswal while the BSP is being represented by Abdussalam. The area is a Muslim-dominated Assembly constituency of Azamgarh district.
It is important to point out that Jamali is the lone sitting MLA to find a place on AIMIM in the 2022 Assembly elections in UP.
Elections in UP are being held in seven phases from February 10 to March 7. The votes will be counted and the results will be declared on March 10, 2022.
