Prof Nadeem Yunus appointed Dean of Faculty of Dentistry at Jamia

Professor Nadeem Yunus has been appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at Jamia Millia Islamia. The appointment is seen as an important step towards strengthening the university’s dental education and expanding research initiatives within the faculty, said one university source aware of the development.

Professor Yunus, an alumnus of King George’s Medical University in Lucknow, is a senior academician with extensive experience in dental education, research, and clinical practice. He has been associated with Jamia Millia Islamia for more than 16 years and is widely recognised for his contributions to advancing dental sciences and mentoring undergraduate students.

University officials said Professor Yunus brings a strong vision for enhancing academic standards and promoting interdisciplinary research both within the university and beyond. His leadership is expected to further strengthen the reputation of the Faculty of Dentistry, improve its standing in National Institutional Ranking Framework rankings, and introduce new academic programmes such as PhD courses, DORA, Dental Hygienist, and Dental Mechanics programmes in the coming years.

Colleagues and students have welcomed the appointment and expressed confidence that Professor Yunus will play a key role in expanding research collaborations, modernising infrastructure, and fostering academic excellence.

The Faculty of Dentistry at Jamia Millia Islamia has been steadily emerging as a centre for quality dental education in India and is expected to begin offering both undergraduate and MDS programmes from the 2026 academic session.

University sources indicated that Professor Yunus will assume his responsibilities immediately and is likely to present his roadmap for the faculty’s future development in the coming weeks.
