A Batla House resident, who was on his way to his office, called early morning to know the reason behind heavy police presence in the locality?

He said he saw police buses moving towards Khalilullah Masjid this morning, is everything fine? Other residents too wanted to know the reason behind arrival of so many police buses in the locality.

A resident on the condition of anonymity said police are here to carry out anti-encroachment drive. It is learned that jhuggis on government land are to be removed. A notice urging residents to vacate their jhuggis and even pucca houses build on government land was posted in and around the area, said a resident. However, residents said they are not illegally occupying the area as they have been residing on the land for years with some even waving electricity bills and other papers.

Four months ago, one such anti-encroachment drive was held in the area when several jhuggis were demolished.

A journalist who runs a channel on FB also did live from the spot showing the movement of bulldozers to demolish illegal slums coming up on the land. He said right now only jhuggis are being dismantled.
