Watch: Locked in house, man captures nature’s beauty

When the lockdown was announced after deadly Covid second wave, many youngsters asked their parents to strictly stay at home and not venture out. In Ghaffar Manzil too many people preferred staying in their houses for safety reason. Of them there was one Ghazanfar Zaidi, a retired professor of Jamia Millia Islamia, who utilised his time and penned a Coffee Table Book titled “Lockdwn Through A Balconcy”.

The OT spoke with him to know how he managed to do so.

“When the Covid lockdown was announced last year, all my loved ones directed me to stay at home and not venture out. They said senior citizens are the most vulnerable…  so I had to cancel all my travel plans. All my photography tours were also canceled. So here I was, stuck in my house with a camera and nowhere to go,” he said.

“So what did I do? Well, I didn’t stop. I kept clicking my pictures. I am very proud and relieved to announce that my images taken during the lockdown have now come out in the form of a Coffee Table book titled – “Lockdown through a Balcony”. As the title suggests, the book carries 88 images taken from the 12 feet narrow space of my home balcony,” he said.

“I have tried to capture the newness in everyday routine. I tried to capture the drama of life around us. In fact, despite all the precautions, I did get infected by Covid during the second wave. But even then, I just kept clicking. I want to thank all my friends, students and well-wishers for always encouraging me and my work. It’s because of all of you that I keep on going,” he said.

He taught art and photography at Jamia from where he retired as the Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts.

Those interested in the book can send him a WhatsApp message and I will book a copy for you: 9212036549.
