In the first phase of the Delhi government’s National Flag Project, at a cost of Rs 104 crore, a total of 500 flags will be installed in each district of Delhi. In Okhla too work has begun for the installation of massive Tirangas at a height of 115 feet. Currently, work has begun at Okhla Head, said Abul Fazal Enclave ward Councillor Abdul Wajid Khan.

He told the OT over phone that two more places have been identified in Okhla for the massive Tirangas, one at Kalindi Kunj and the other one at Shaheen Bagh’s MLA Office.

On the 75th anniversary of the country’s Independence, the Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, had unveiled a “Deshbhakti Budget” of Rs 69 thousand crore for the fiscal year 2021-22.

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence, the Government of Delhi’s Public Works Department decided to install massive Tirangas at 75 different locations throughout the city. These tricolours will be flown proudly at a height of 115 feet in the air.

Five such flags were unfurled on Independence Day in 2021, in East Kidwai Nagar, Patparganj, Shakur Basti, Kalkaji and Dwarka.

75 mighty Tirangas will now don upon the skies of Delhi to celebrate 75 years of Indian independence. “Our goal is to ensure that whenever someone steps out of their house they see a Tiranga in every direction they look. Seeing the Tiranga fly high with pride instils a stronger sense of Deshbhakti in everyone. Delhi is perhaps the only city in the world to have installed their national flag at such a large scale. We are examining our achievement and hopefully we have secured a record in the Guiness Book of World Records. I hope and pray that our mighty Tiranga will continue to fly higher and higher, and our country continues to prosper forever and ever,” Kejriwal had said.

PWD Minister Satyendar Jain said most flags have been installed at roads under the PWD to overcome challenges posed at roads owned by DDA, MCD and NDMC.

Kejriwal had said: “It is a day of great pride for the entire country. We are celebrating 75 years of independence and keeping that in mind today, 115 feet tall national flags have been hoisted at 75 different places throughout the National Capital. Our motive is that finally in the first phase, these national flags will be hoisted at 500 different locations. Our target was to achieve this goal by 26th January, but because there was a ban on construction activities due to pollution and the third COVID wave, it will now take place over the next few months. And the Tiranga will fly high with pride at 500 different locations in the near future. Our objective is that whenever someone steps out of their homes in Delhi to go to work, they spot the Tiranga at least 2-3 times on their way.”
