Jamia Premier League-2025 (JPL-2025), a Staff T-20 Cricket Tournament, is being organised by the Games & Sports Department, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) from 5th April, 2025. The Opening Ceremony of the league was held on Saturday, the 5th April, 2025 at Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan (NMAK) Pataudi Sports Complex of the university. The Inaugural Match was played between Jamia Staff Cricket Team and Indian Bank Team as a Friendly Match at NMAK Pataudi Sports Complex.
The programme was graced by Prof. Mazhar Asif, Vice-Chancellor, JMI as the Chief Guest in the presence of Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, JMI as the Special Guest. Ajay Agarwal, General Manager, Indian Bank and Venkata Ramana Rao CH, Dy. General Manager & Zonal Manager, Indian Bank were the Guests of Honour of the programme.
In his address, Prof. Mazhar Asif, Vice-Chancellor encouraged participants to take part in sports in addition to their professional activities and wished good luck to all the participating teams.
Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, JMI highlighted the importance of sports by quoting the thought of “Plato’s Era Greeks Society” where sports and physical education were crucial parts of personal virtue, intellectual achievement and military forces and health sector.
Ajay Agarwal, General Manager, Indian Bank also addressed the faculty and staff members about the significance of the games & sports in a healthy work-life balance of the employees.
Prof. Nafis Ahmad, Hony. Director, Games & Sports, JMI outlined a brief introduction on the JPL-2025. He added that this staff tournament has been organized by the Games & Sports Department, JMI for the last 10 years. In this tournament, the teaching and non-teaching employees participate and form teams of their respective Faculties and other offices of the University. The objective of this tournament is to foster a healthy work-life balance among the University fraternity under the campaign of the Fit India Movement.

In another development, the Centre for Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences (CPRS), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with three esteemed physiotherapy and rehabilitation institutions, marking a significant milestone. The three organizations with whom the MoUs were signed are the Manovikas Charitable Society in Krishna Nagar, Delhi; the National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities (NILD), Kolkata; and the Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities, New Delhi. The signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding was held at the university’s Yasser Arafat Hall.
Dr. Lalit Narayan, the Director of the National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities (NILD); Dr. Jitendra Sharma, the Director of the Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities; and Dr. Alok Bhuwan, the Director of the Manovikas Charitable Society, executed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions.
Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, the Registrar of JMI, signed the Memoranda of Understanding representing JMI. The ceremony was also attended by Prof. Mohammad Zahid Ashraf, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, JMI. Prof. Suraj Kumar from CPRS, JMI played a key role in facilitating this collaboration under the leadership of Prof. Zubia Veqar, Honorary Director CPRS, JMI. All the faculty members of CPRS, JMI were also present at this gracious occasion.
The primary aim of this collaboration is to foster interdisciplinary excellence in the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation sciences by integrating evidence-based research, clinical training, and global academic partnerships. Through these MoUs, the Centre for Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Sciences at JMI seeks to bridge the gap between theory and practice, creating opportunities for meaningful academic exchange and collaborative learning and aims to promote high-quality research and clinical innovations in key areas such as sleep, pain, cardiopulmonary, orthopaedic, neurological, paediatric and athletic rehabilitation, while empowering both students and faculty through wide exposure and capacity-building initiatives.
These MoU’s target to establish strategic partnerships focusing on Clinical postings and internships for students, collaborative research initiatives in physiotherapy rehabilitation and disability studies, faculty exchange and co-guidance opportunities, joint workshops, seminars, and training programs and shared technical and infrastructural support between these institutions.
This collaboration also reflects JMI’s commitment to promote interdisciplinary learning and to strengthen inclusive healthcare education and services across the country.
