High prices of goats may dampen festive spirit

Office goers were waiting for Sunday to lay their hands on the sacrificial animal. But they were in for a surprise as many residents said the prices of goats were high. This doesn’t mean that there was a rush at Dhobi Ghat Bakra Mandi on a rainy Sunday.

YouTuber Shadab said despite rain and high goat prices people did visit the mandi to purchase animals. Syed Hashmi said as the prices were high he decided to try his luck on Monday or Tuesday as Eid-Al-Adha is to be held on June 29.

He said he visited several bakra mandis in Abul Fazal Enclave and Dhobi Ghat but could not find the right goat with the right price. Hashmi was not alone as many residents were seen returning empty handed from the local mandis with some even going outside Okhla to purchase goats at modest price.

A resident Waseem said from Monday onwards the price will come down as goat traders know that today being Sunday many office goers will turn up. Many residents, who stay in flats, prefer purchasing goats a day before the festival.

Like earlier, this year too many goat traders have arrived in Okhla to sell their animals.
