Missed call or WhatsApp for power subsidy coming soon

Delhiites will soon be able to give a missed call to register for Delhi Government’s power subsidy. The Delhi Government is set to issue a phone number to allow residents to opt-in for the power subsidy at ease.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who holds the power portfolio, chaired a key meeting with senior officials of the power department, DISCOMs and other concerned departments on Saturday.

Giving details about the initiative, Sisodia said: “Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his government always strives to ensure that its services reach every citizen in Delhi. We have decided to simplify the procedure for opting-in for power subsidy. We will soon release a phone number where consumers can drop a missed call or WhatsApp to register their choice for the power subsidy. Delhiites will also have the convenience of opting in through a QR code on the bill or by visiting the DISCOM centre, besides filling a form attached to the bill.”

47,11,176 families are taking benefit of the power subsidy at present. All consumers will be given a choice to opt-out from the subsidy or continue getting free electricity from October 1 onwards.

The Deputy CM instructed the officials to make the process simpler for the consumers so that every citizen could easily register their choice with the department instead of engaging in a long-drawn process.

During the meeting, it was decided that the Delhi Government will issue a power-subsidy phone-line. Consumers will be able to drop a missed call on this phone-line or send a WhatsApp on it to register their choice. Simultaneously, it was also concurred that all bills will carry QR codes from now on, which the consumers can scan to register their choice. The consumers will also have a walk-in option wherein they will be able to go to the DISCOM centre and register their choice for the subsidy.

Sisodia said: “Kejriwal and his government always strives to ensure that its services reach every citizen in Delhi. The CM had announced that the power-subsidy would now be regulated on an opt-in basis. We have now decided to simplify the procedure for opting-in for the power subsidy. The Delhi Government will soon release a phone number where consumers can drop a missed call or WhatsApp to register their choice for the power subsidy. All Delhiites will also have the convenience of opting in through a QR code printed on the backside of the power bill or by visiting the DISCOM centre. Besides this, they can also register by the existing method of filling a form attached to the bill. The Delhi Government is committed to simplifying access to governance and bringing new-age reforms in its services.”

Back in May, Kejriwal had announced that Delhiites will continue getting free electricity.

He had further informed that from now on, those consumers who wish to opt out from the subsidy can do so from October 1.
