Watch: Ex-Jamia student leader Arshad dies at 52, laid to rest in Ghazipur

Arshad Hussain Khan, a former student leader of Jamia Millia Islamia, lost his battle against Parkinson’s, on Sunday at Al Shifa hospital in Abul Fazal Enclave where he was hospitalised.

The news of his death spread like wildfire among Jamia biradri who rushed to the hospital to pay their last respect.

Khan was 52 years old.

His body was taken to his hometown Ghazipur, where the tadfeen took place on Monday, according to people and Jamia alumni who knew him for years.

He rose to popularity on the campus in 1994 when he won the Jamia Students’ Union election as general secretary. A down-to-earth person, he did his MSC and then BEd from Jamia. After completing his education he got a job as a teacher in Noor Nagar Government School.

From many Jamiaiites, the death of Arshad at an early age came as a shock.

His hostel roommate Ikram Ali said during his college days he used to reside in White House hostel and was a popular face among students always ready to help them.

Those who knew him from Jamia days he settled down in Okhla with his family. The disease had its toll on him, said his friends.

He has left behind a wife, 2 daughters and one son.
