Heatwave adds hardship to Ramzan fast
Muslims across India, including those residing in Okhla, are sweating their way through Ramzan due to high temperature. Many Okhlaiites woke up to hot morning to open their sehri. The maximum temperature in the area on Wednesday settled at 41 degrees Celsius.
A doctor said fasting is full of hardship during heatwave as chances of dehydration are high. He suggested residents to take care and increase their water intake after breaking fast and stop going out during daytime.
Many residents have complained of falling ill. Ershad said he faced dehydration issue in the beginning of the Ramzan and had to skip fasting for days. After taking medicines and rest, he said he has fully recovered and again started fasting.
There are many like him in the locality, who due to heatwave, are facing hardship. The hardest hit are those who stay on road throughout the day like e-rickshaw drivers and vegetable vendors. A few among them said they are not fasting as it is too hot and they have to be out throughout the day.
However, the good news is that the IMD has predicted cloudy weather and gusty winds on Thursday.
The maximum temperature at the Safdarjung Observatory settled at 41.2 degrees Celsius as against 42.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
