    Jamia win basketball championship

    Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) won the North Zone Inter University Basketball (Men) Championship 2021-22 by defeating Punjab University, Chandigarh in the final round robin league match held today at the NMAK Pataudi Sports Complex of JMI.

    The university retained the title also with the victory as it was the winner of the last championship too.

    JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest distributed the  awards to the winning team.

    She congratulated all the teams for participating in the championship and said that all of them are winners as they came out to take part in it despite the ongoing pandemic period.

    JMI Registrar Nazim Husan Jafri was the Guest of Honor on the occasion. He distributed the awards to the runner up team.

    Prof. Khalid Moin, Hony Director, Games & Sports, JMI briefed the audience about the tournament and teams during the prize distribution ceremony which was attended by faculty members, officers and other staff members of the university. Prize distribution programme ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. Weqar Ahmad Siddiqui, Chairman, Organising Committee of the Championship. 

    JMI team was represented by Manik as Captain and team members were Akshay Adhana, Aakash Hooda, Amit Sharma, Sishant Dhanda, Jai Prakash, Gaurav Baliyan, Faisal Khan, Prince Tyagi, Ankit Joshi and Shivam. The team was coached by SS Rawat and Dr Mohd Moonis was the team manager under the overall supervision of the Hony. Director, Games & Sports, JMI.  

    A total of 42 teams participated in the tournament which started on 15th December, 2021 and was inaugurated by the Registrar, JMI.
