Zubair-ur-Rehman offers suggestions to improve railway services. Read the report:
Railway-related issues with the aim of resolving them for the benefit of the public were discussed at the 10th meeting of the Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee of North Central Railway held at Hotel Kanha Shyam in Prayagraj two days ago.
North Central Railway member Dr Zubair-ur-Rehman in his suggestion to General Manager, North Central Railway highlighted major issues affecting various stations. “From Chola Station on the New Delhi–Howrah rail line to Palwal Railway Station on the New Delhi–Mumbai rail line, the new railway line should be extended via Jewar Airport. Muri and Mahamana Express trains should be given a stoppage at Chola Railway Station. ”
“Proper vehicle stand facilities should be arranged at Khurja Junction Railway Station. At all railway stations, there should be proper ticket checking arrangements on both sides to ensure smooth and safe passenger movement. Special trains should be run as per demand for all major religious places in the North Central Railway zone. Essential facilities should be available for differently-abled persons at all railway stations.
“All railway stations should have appropriate waiting rooms along with basic amenities. The “Kavach” system should be swiftly implemented on high-density routes. A list of all ZRUCC members should be displayed at their district and division railway stations and also shared with the DRM office to facilitate inspections and maintain coordination,” he suggested.
The meeting was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Seema Dwivedi, Hathras MP Anoop Pradhan, Phulpur MP Praveen Patel, along with the General Manager and Additional General Manager of North Central Railway, and committee members Krishna Gautam, Bhup Singh Pal, Dheeraj Bansal, Sandhya Gautam, and all other esteemed members were present.
Besides being a member of the North Central Railway, Zubair-ur-Rehman is also a philanthropist and businessman. A resident of Chandiyana in Uttar Pradesh and based in Okhla for several years, he is popularly known as Babban Khan. In his hometown, he runs a gaushala (cow shelter), earning respect across communities.
Zubair-ur-Rehman told the OT that he inherited his love for rearing cows from his mother, Hamid-un-Nisa Begum. In his village, he maintains a herd of 90 cows and 16 calves.
“After my mother passed away in 2015, I started a gaushala in her memory and named it Madhusudan Gaushala. It was her passion that turned me into a Gopalak (cow caretaker),” he said. The gaushala is located in a historic Pathan village in the Siyana tehsil, in Barah Basti, which was established by Pathans during the reign of Sher Shah Suri in the 16th century.
What stands out most about Zubair-ur-Rehman is that he has never sought government funds to run his gaushala. “We’ve never raised banners or asked for aid. God has blessed us with enough. This is not a business; it is seva, a sacred duty,” he said. His dedication to animal welfare has earned him wide respect, drawing visitors from across India.
Those who have visited and praised his work include actor Raza Murad, wrestler Sushil Kumar, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, BJP leader Maneka Gandhi, singer Anuradha Paudwal, and boxer Sangram Singh, among others.
