Big relief for construction workers after construction, demolition ban imposed in Delhi

The Delhi government is standing in support of the construction workers of Delhi, said the government in a statement. This facility is only available to registered workers.

Due to air pollution, the livelihood of construction workers has ceased because of the closure of construction activities in Delhi and with this in view, Arvind Kejriwal announced assistance for more than 10 lakh registered construction workers of Rs 5,000 each.

He tweeted: “Construction activities have been stopped across Delhi in view of pollution. I have directed Labour Minister Manish Sisodia to give Rs 5000 pm as financial support to each construction worker during this period.”

Rs 500 crore will be spent on the scheme and the assistance amount will be deposited by the Delhi Government directly in the accounts of the registered construction workers soon, said the statement.

“The Delhi Government had spent Rs 350 crore to support 7 lakh construction workers last year. Even during the corona crisis, the Delhi Government had provided an aid of Rs 5,000 to all the construction workers,” said the statement. The Delhi Government had imposed a complete ban on construction and demolition activities owing to the rise in pollution, recently.
