Those who knew Wasif said he was out-an-out a gentleman and are unable to fathom the fact that he was shot dead a few metres from his house in Noor Nagar on Sunday when he was on a motorbike.

Police said the Jamia Nagar police station got a call from Holy Hospital on Sunday evening, informing them that one Mohammad Waseef Sattar Ghazi, a property dealer from Jamia Nagar, had been brought to the hospital with bullet injuries by locals.

“The doctors of the hospital declared him dead. Police immediately reached the hospital and initiated an enquiry. During the preliminary investigation, we found that Ghazi was riding his motorcycle and some unknown persons on a two-wheeler fired at him near Moosa Masjid in Noor Nagar. The police team has already started inspecting the scene of the crime,” said a police officer, asking not to be named, reported the HT.

Since Monday morning residents have been waiting for the body to return after post-portem.

Okhla youth leader Syed Fouzul Azeem urf Arshi said the body has arrived and namaz-e-janaza will be held in Musa mosque in Noor Nagar at 9.15 and tadfeen most probably in Batla House graveyard after Isha prayer.

Earlier in the day, he said it all depends when the body will arrive as early words had spread in the locality that tadfeen might take place after Asar prayer but it didn’t happen as the body didn’t arrive from the hospital where it was taken for post-mortem from the Holy Family Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Wasif was popular among Jamia alumni as his death was mourned on the social media with many posting his photos with condolence messages. According to a social media post by Okhla youth leader Mahmood Ahmed, Wasif was his junior at Jamia from where he completed his MSW.

Investigation is underway to nab the accused.
