Jamia staffers take pledge to build corruption free India

With corruption being one of the major obstacles to economic, political and social progress of the country, employees of Jamia Millia Islamia today took pledge to build a corruption free India, while following the social distancing norms due to Covid-19.

The pledge was administered by Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, JMI in the presence of the Registrar Dr Nazim Husain Jafri, Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO), JMI,  Prof Ejaz Masih, other officers and staff members at the lawns of the main administrative block of the university.

The pledge was administered as part of Vigilance Awareness Week being observed from October 26- November 1, 2021 to emphasise the importance of integrity in public life and show its commitment to implement the policy of ‘Zero Tolerance against Corruption’. The theme of the vigilance awareness week is “Independent India @ 75: Self Reliance with Integrity स्वतंत्र भारत @ 75: सत्यनिष्ठा के साथ आत्मनिर्भरता”.

The employees, among other things, pledged to promote ethical business practices and foster a culture of honesty and integrity; not to offer or accept bribes; commitment towards good corporate governance based on transparency, accountability and fairness; adherence to relevant laws, rules and compliance mechanisms in the conduct of business; adopt a code of ethics for all employees; sensitise employees of laws, regulations, etc. relevant to their work for honest discharge of their duties; provide grievance redressal and Whistle Blower mechanism for reporting grievances and fraudulent activities and to protect the rights and interests of stakeholders and the society at large.

The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), as part of its efforts to promote probity in public life and to achieve a corruption free society, observes Vigilance Awareness Week every year.
