Why Okhla leaders spending lakhs of rupees on poster blitz, biryani feast not coming forward to help Talib family?

Just imagine if Talib, 25, would have been lynched by non-Muslims. There would have been outrage across the country with religious organisations and leaders lining up at his house.

Save community journalism by paying Rs 500, 1,000 and more.

But in the case of Talib the opposite has happened as the poor painter was literally lynched in Batla House by his neighbours, all Muslims.

And surprisingly there is no outrage with nobody, save Congress Councillor Shoaib Danish, turning up at his house in Batla House and providing him financial aid, said a resident.

Till now no religious organisations have turned up at Talib’s house to be with his old father Babu Khan, a poor man.

“The situation is worrisome. In Muslim ghettos many people are suffering from siege mentality and that is why I see such deafening silence over the issue,” said Okhla-based activist, who requested not to be named fearing reprisals from powerful lobby in the locality.

Just see that election campaign is on and ticket-seekers and politicians have plastered the whole locality with illegal posters defacing the area spending lakhs of rupees but nobody is willing to help Talib family, he said, adding that on daily basis these self-proclaimed leaders are throwing biryani feast.

Talib, 25, died after a fight over gulli danda in Batla House three days ago. His family members said he was beaten to death by many local residents.

Arrests have been made and FIR lodged, said police, adding that efforts are on to arrest more accused.

The family is demanding strict action against the accused.

Police said on Monday that three people, including a juvenile, were arrested for allegedly killing Talib.

The victim’s father alleged the involvement of a man named Irfan and his associates in the incident, the officer said. Irfan, one of his associates and a juvenile were apprehended, while efforts are on to arrest the remaining accused, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Esha Pandey said.

Police have recovered an iron spade that was allegedly used in the offence, it said.
