Hours ago, media reported, including NDTV: “50 kilogram heroin, Rs 30 lakh cash seized from Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh.”

Van of media houses and journalists were seen moving around at Hari Kothi road. A journalist of a TV channel, who had come to get the story, was heard talking that the incident took place in Abul Fazal Enclave and not Shaheen Bagh as being talked about in the media.

Another journalist carrying mike of a TV channel was seen asking residents whether they could say something about the development. Many had no idea about the development with one shopkeeper saying he has no idea and it is only after journalists started turning up at the locality that he came to know that something like this has happened.

A resident said after seeing vehicles from TV channels he thought that something has happened. And on asking the reporter, he was told that they are looking for the house from where the incident unfolded.

A former TV journalist said many a time outsiders get confused to identify between Shaheen Bagh and Abul Fazal Enclave and hence the misreporting about the location. Both Shaheen Bagh and Abul Fazal Enclave are in Jamia Nagar. However, till the filing of the report it was difficult to point out the exact location as according to media reports the person was residing on rent and locals were not very forthcoming.

A TV journalist, residing in the locality and who too was chasing the story after the news surfaced, said the problem with the media fraternity is that they find it hard to identify between Shaheen Bagha and Abul Fazal Enclave and also as Shaheen Bagh is internationally known location many think that the story will sell and might get more TRPs.

The development and coverage in the media has left local Okhla residents in shock.

Speaking to Republic, NCB chief SN Pradhan highlighted that the international drug trade busted in Delhi is the “enemy’s strategy to destabilise Indian youth.”

Airing the report, newsabplive said: “The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has busted an India-Afghanistan drug syndicate and seized about 50 kg of “high-quality” heroin from Shaheen Bagh area in Jamia Nagar in one of the biggest narcotics seizures in Delhi, PTI reported.
