Delhi bans Shab-e-Barat, Holi, Navaratri celebrations in public places as Covid-19 cases rise
Rising Covid cases in Delhi has spoiled plans of many girding up to participate in public celebrations during Holi, Navaratri, Shab-e-Barat as the Delhi Disaster Management Authority on Tuesday ordered that there will be no public celebrations in Delhi during upcoming festivals.
Delhi witnessed over 1,100 corona cases on Tuesday being touted as highest in over 3 months and four deaths.
“All authorities concerned will ensure that public celebrations and gatherings, congregations during upcoming festivals like Holi, Shab-e-Barat, Navaratri etc shall not be allowed in public places/public grounds/public parks/markets/religious places etc in NCT of Delhi,” Chief Secretary Vijay Dev said in the order as reported in the media.
It is for the first time since December 24 that the city has recorded more than 1,000 cases in a day.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain also talked about the need to remain alert. “There is a need to remain alert and wear masks all the time. Strict action is being taken against those found without a mask and violating social distancing norms.
The Minister urged the people to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour during Holi on March 28-29.
