7 Delhi roads to be beautified with Rs 14.12 cr, know about them

The Delhi Government is to develop commuter-friendly roads across the capital and provide a safe travel experience to everyone, said the government in a statement. Continuing to work with the same motive, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who holds the PWD portfolio, approved the project worth Rs 14.12 crores for the strengthening and beautification of seven major roads in Wazirpur Constituency, Moti Nagar Constituency & Shalimar Bagh Constituency.

These roads are Muni Maya Ram Marg, Bharat Nagar Road, PDM Marg, KC Goyal Marg, Gulab Singh Marg, Central Deepchand Bandhu Marg and South West Satguru Ram Singh Marg, it said.

At the same time, he instructed officials that during the construction work, all the protocols & standards of safety, security and quality must be followed with commitment.

Under this project, the Public Works Department (PWD) has been directed to strengthen 9.36 kms of road stretches, along with maintenance and upkeep of pavements, central verges of the entire road stretch, including other allied works such as lane marking, whitewashing of parapet walls/railing, etc. The said project will not only provide a better commuting experience but will also improve the interconnectivity of the area. This strengthening and beautification is being done so that the people of Delhi do not face any kind of problem in the movement and they do not have to deal with traffic jams. The PWD has taken the responsibility to check the work of maintenance of roads as per requirements from time to time. For the strengthening of these roads also, their present status and requirements were thoroughly inspected by the PWD officials, after which these projects got the approval of the government.

Due to less drain capacity on Satguru Ram Singh Marg located in Moti Nagar assembly, people here have to face problems during the rainy season. Taking immediate cognizance of this,  Work will be done to strengthen the drainage here and increase drain capacity.

Sisodia said: “The Delhi Government is getting the roads across the capital assessed by prominent agencies and universities, to chart out a development plan for them and make them better. As per the findings of the assessment, the government is approving funds for strengthening and beautification of roads.”

He said Shyamji Krishan Verma Marg, Sardar Balbir Singh Sindu Marg, Kabir Das Marg, Rampura Main Road and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg are the important roads of Trinagar constituency. Lakhs of commuters take this route to work and other purposes every day. Due to increased vehicular load on the roads, they require immediate attention. In view of the same strengthening and beautification process has been taken up by the government on these roads.

Sisodia said PWD is following the global standards of street design to make the city roads better and safer. Government is working round the clock to ensure that commuters of Delhi get a smooth ride and walking experience on city roads. This will help to decongest city roads, decrease the travel time of the commuters and save energy.

He directed the officials to ensure the completion of work within the stipulated time, without any inconvenience to the commuters. Along with this, he instructed the officials that during the construction work, all the protocols & standards of safety-security and quality should be ensured with full commitment.

The road strengthening project will include:

    re-carpeting of roads

comprehensive maintenance and upkeep of pavements, central verges and service lanes

Allied works such as lane marking, providing glow studs, white washing of parapet walls/railing etc.

Development of greenery on the central verge and either side of the road.

Maintenance of road aesthetics such as road furniture, pedestrian pathways, LED lights etc.
