Retired Jamia Prof Rafaqat who wrote book on role of Muslims in Indian freedom struggle passes away

Retired Professor of Jamia Millia Islamia, Refaqat Ali Khan, passed away on Tuesday evening in a hospital, according to residents. He was a resident of Zakir Bagh and was laid to rest at ITO graveyard.

Born in 1939, Professor Khan was professor of Mughal and Islamic history at Jamia.

He was former IOS Vice Chairman and used to look after the academic projects of the institute, said the IOS in its condolence message.

He was the general editor of the three volumes published by the Institute The Role of Muslims in the Indian Freedom Struggle 1857-1947.

Professor Khan studied at Aligah Muslim University, Aligarh. Initially he worked for Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi. He worked with Professor A Rahman’s project Science and Technology in Medieval India.

This was the first major work on the contribution of Indian Muslims to science and technology. Before joining Jamia, Professor Khan taught history at Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, and Maulana Azad College at Aurangabad.
