Awareness drive on rabies: Facts, not fear held

With the theme ‘Rabies: Facts, not Fear’, all four zones of the SDMC-South, Central, West & Najafgarh- organised free anti-rabies vaccination cum awareness drives for pets and stray dogs on World Rabies Day in their respective zones.

The mass vaccination camps against rabies & public talks were organised in collaboration with NGOs and private veterinary doctors during which 472 stray dogs were immunised against the rabies and released in the same area.

A total of 17 vans were participated and the areas covered were Rajouri Garden, Raghu Vihar, Subhash Nagar, Goyala Dairy, Shyam Vihar, Dinapur Goyala Road, Qutab Vihar Phase I & II, Chhawla Village, Tajpur, Lajpat NAgar, R K Puram, Ekta Vihar, Ambedkar Colony etc.

In South Zone, SDMC’s  Veterinary Department, in collaboration with NCDC and NGOs namely Pets Animals Welfare Society, Krishna Ashram, Dog Sterilization Centre, Massodpur observed World Rabies Day by organizing a special campaign in SDMC School, Sec-7, R K Puram in presence of Chairman of Ward Committee South Zone Subhash Bhadana and local area councillor Tulsi Joshi.  On the occasion, senior officials from the Veterinary Department were also present.

Five vans were flagged off by Subhash Bhadana and Tulsi Joshi. These vans teamed with the vaccination staff and along with the dog catching team will visit different areas coming under R K Puram Ward and carried out Anti Rabies Vaccination of dogs. One vaccination Centre was organized at SDMC School, Sec-7 where the local resident had brought their pet dog also for vaccination.

On that day as many as 98 dogs were vaccinated and it will continue, said the SDMC.

Tulsi Joshi, on the occasion, stressed upon the implementation of the guidelines of WHO/OIE/GoI for prevention of rabies cases in human as well as dog population.
