Property tax: Big relief to house owners in unauthorised colonies

The SDMC has provided a big relief to the tax payers of residential and non-residential properties falling in unauthorised colonies, said Mayor Mukesh Suryan.

The civic agency has rolled out an amnesty scheme under which owners of residential properties will get waiver off from property tax prior to 2021-2022 by making payment of one financial year (2021-2022).

Similarly, owners of non-residential properties will get waiver off from property tax prior to 2019-2020 by making payment of property tax of three financial years (2019-2020, 2020-2021 & 2021-2022) & the scheme is applicable in all unauthorised colonies (excluding affluent unauthorised colonies), village Lal Dora, extended Abadi of villages and properties allotted to Kashmiri migrants by the Government, said the agency, adding that the scheme will be operational till 31st March 2022.

Standing Committee chairman Col (R) B K Oberoi said the SDMC has rolled out a similar amnesty scheme previous year also.

“The move will provide a major relief to the property tax payers as they could not pay property tax due to financial constraints. This scheme is also beneficial for those taxpayers who are not able to make payment due to penalty and interest and such taxpayers can join the mainstream by availing the benefit of the amnesty scheme,” he said.

Leader of House Indrajeet Sehrawat said taxpayers from unauthorised colonies are being appealed to avail benefit of this scheme and pay their property tax on time.

He said the scheme will not only provide huge relief to the tax payer of properties but will also help in increasing the number of taxpayers.

It is also expected that the scheme will help in increasing corporation’s revenue, he said.
