Fix all potholes by October 20: Jain to officials
PWD Minister Satyendar Jain conducted a surprise inspection to take stock of the ongoing massive road reconstruction drive being carried out by the Delhi Government.
The Public Works Department (PWD) Minister inspected the entire stretch from Ashram to Kalindi Kunj Metro Station.
During his 2 hour-long inspections, he visited the roads at New Friends Colony, Mathura Road, Gurjar Chowk and Kalindi Kunj.
He instructed the officials to speed up the work so that all the potholes can be filled by the 20th of October.
This is a part of the Delhi Government’s special drive to fill all the potholes and repair the roads damaged due to high-intensity rainfall, it said. This initiative will also aid in preventing environmental pollution during the winter season which is caused due to the construction work.
Jain also instructed that in addition to repairing the roads the officials should also repair the damaged sewage openings, open choked storm drains, repair footpaths, clean bell mouths and kerb channels, repair non-functional street lights and street-light panels, lifts and escalators in subways.
During his 2-hour-long visit from Ashram to Kalindi Kunj Metro Station, Jain inspected multiple roads at New Friends Colony, Mathura Road, Gurjar Chowk and Kalindi Kunj. Satyendar Jain said: “Filling up all the potholes of Delhi is our topmost priority. The officials should focus on working efficiently and should thrive to complete the work within the directed time frame. The work of filling all the potholes and reconstruction of roads is to be done before 20th of October.”
Jain instructed that in addition to repairing the roads the officials should also repair the damaged sewage openings, open choked storm drains, repair footpaths, clean bell mouths and kerb channels, repair non-functional street lights and street-light panels, lifts and escalators in subways.
Jain previously held a review meeting on the issue of road maintenance with senior officials of PWD. In the meeting, PWD officials presented a master plan to overhaul the city’s 1,260 km length of road that falls under PWD.
The aim of this is to improve the conditions of roads which deteriorate during the rainy season due to high-intensity rainfall. Maintenance vans are also being deployed in large numbers so that every area is covered under this special drive.
