Will Owaisi’s entry disrupt AAP, Cong plans in Okhla this time?
Will Owaisi’s entry disrupt AAP, Cong plans in Okhla this time? This and other questions are being debated by political observers in Muslim-dominated Okhla.
This is not for the first time that Asaduddin Owaisi’s party is making entry into MCD polls. Its earlier experiment to woo Muslims to its fold in Okhla has failed to click. However, the newly-appointed Okhla-based Delhi president of AIMIM, Kaleem Ul Hafeez, told the OT over phone that the party is ready to contest with all its strength and it is getting overwhelming response from youngsters in Delhi and Okhla.
He said the party has done all the preparations and is to contest at least on 70 seats in Delhi and all seats in Okhla. We hope to improve our performance this time around, he said.
Media analyst Syed Ubaidur Rahman said he is yet to come across a very popular leader in AIMIM in OKhla. Keeping this in mind the party’s chance in MCD polls is not very bright, he said, adding that if the party launches popular local leaders then some changes might take place on the ground in Delhi and Okhla.
Some said it would be interesting to see whether AIMIM is able to make inroads in Muslim-dominated localities as till now it has only succeeded in Bihar with Muslims rejecting it in West Bengal.
