OT impact: JNF, HSF give a helping hand to ex-journalist facing hardships, address family’s food concern, long way to go

A video of an Okhla resident in which she is heard talking about her ordeal uploaded by the OT two days ago has literally gone viral, soliciting several comments, with many vowing to help her.

However, till the filing of the report a small amount has been deposited in her account by donors, she said.

On Tuesday, Jamia National Foundation representative Khalid Ansari turned up at former journalist Iqra Khan’s house and handed over groceries to last for four months to the family. Mirza Qamarul Hasan Beg, chairman of the JCB, is general secretary of the JNF and Justice (retired) MSA Siddiqui is president of the organisation.

    Name of the beneficiary:
    IKRAA KHAN
    Bank Details
    Account No.14402122001293

    IFSC: ORBC0101440
    MICR: 110022207
Bank: Oriental Bank of Commerce, Punjab National Bank
    Branch Address: Jasola, New Delhi

“Though our NGO doesn’t deal with such issues but after reading your report in the OT, we were moved and a decision was taken to help you. We are here to address your basic need and that is food. The groceries will last for four months,” said Ansari.

Later in the day, Zakir Nagar-based Human Solidarity Foundation also provided groceries to Khan. Azad Subhani told the OT that his NGO HSF has promised to take care of her and the family’s health issues by giving them free medical treatment at their charitable dispensary in Zakir Nagar.

Two days ago, Khan had said the family has no food to eat and was residing with no power supply in her rented Okhla building. Following which Aseem Asha Foundation chairman Aseem Asha too promised her help. While interacting with JNF, Khan expressed her desire to get electricity in her house back as the power was cut after the family was not able to clear the Rs 36,000 bill backlog of months. It couldn’t be find out how such huge amount piled up as Khan said she has a few things to use in the ground floor of the house.

Khan said her children are studying under street light. She thanked the organizations and some residents for providing all help. She said she would be further thankful to people if somebody come forward to take care of her only son, a student of Class VIII.

“My husband is almost bed ridden after meeting with an accident a few months ago. I want to see my son getting admission in Jamia Millia Islamia in near future. And would be thankful to see if some help comes in this way,” she said.

After the food issue being addressed, Aseem said now efforts should be made to get her electricity restored and to find a lasting solution to her ordeal would be helping here in getting a job.
