Okhla all ready for mega MCD elections

With high-voltage election campaigning for the 250 wards MCD poll coming to end on Friday, now the D-day has come with residents of all ages ready to cast their vote on Sunday.

Full preparations have been made for the election with security being geared up across the city as Okhla is to see fight among AAP, Congress, BJP, AIMIM, JDU and other political parties with Shaheen Bagh ward seeing a new entry of Bheem Party for the first time.

Come December 4, fates of parties will be sealed, while counting for votes cast on that day will be held on December 7, the State Election Commission (SEC) announced Friday. Election is to be held from 8 am to 5:30 pm. For the MCD polls, “nearly 40,000 Delhi Police personnel, about 20,000 Home Guards and 108 companies of CAPF and SAP are to be deployed in the Capital city”, a senior police official said, reported the media.

For Sunday, Delhi Metro train services on all lines will start at 4 am from all terminal stations, and the trains will run with a frequency of 30 minutes on all the lines till 6 am. After that, metro trains will run as per the normal Sunday timetable throughout the day.

All eyes are on two seats in Okhla, Zakir Nagar ward where Shoaib Danish is seeking to win his seat for the fourth time and Abul Fazal Enclave ward where AAP sitting Councillor Wajid Khan is trying his luck for the second time. With Zakir Nagar ward being reserved for women, Danish wife is in the fray up against surging AAP, AIMIM and BJP. From Sarita Vihar, BJP’s Nitu Manish Chaudhary is also seeking second term.

The campaign to the election was held on basic issues like garbage mountain on roadside in front of Al Shifa Hospital, Shaheen Bagh, bad roads, no water supply and pollution and other burning issues which from to time have dominated in the locality.
