On Monday, Delhi recorded 3,548 fresh cases and 15 deaths.

Private doctors, nurses and other medical staff would be allowed movement with ID cards. Also, exceptions will also be made for pregnant women and those needing treatment.

“Public transport such as Delhi Metro/public buses/autos/taxis shall be allowed to function within its stipulated time for the transportation of only specified categories of people during night curfew, as per prescribed protocols/SOPs issued by the government in this regard,” the order said, reported The Hindu.

The night curfew was being enforced to check the movement of people, not essential services, the Delhi government said in its order, reported ThePrint.

“An in-principle decision has been taken to impose night curfew in the city to stem the current Covid surge. The timings are under discussion, but most likely it will be between 9 pm and 5-7 am in the morning so that people can go about their daily business without any hindrance. There will, of course, be the usual exemptions for essential services workers,” a senior Delhi government official told ThePrint.

The Delhi government official quoted above said: “The Delhi Police found multiple violations in night clubs and restaurants. There is an undeniable laxity that has crept in. If there are violations, what other option do we have to control the cases?”

“Others who will be allowed with an e-pass include employees of banks, insurance offices and ATMs, print and electronic media, those delivering essential goods such as food, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment through e-commerce. Employees of commercial and private establishments providing essential services and commodities and those going for COVID-19 vaccination will be allowed if they have e-pass (in soft or hard copy), which can be obtained by applying on the website delhi.gov.in,” the order said, reported the Hindu.

People who are exempted from the night curfew include government employees, private medical personnel, pregnant women and patients availing of medical services, people coming from or going to airports, railway stations and lSBTs (Inter State Bus Terminals) on production of valid tickets, it further said.
