Jamia V-C Padma Shri Najma delivers motivational, insightful address on Women’s Day
A number of programmes was organised by various departments and centres of Jamia Millia Islamia to celebrate International Women’s Day today. The Department of Adult & Continuing Education & Extension (DACEE), Jamia hosted a national webinar on the theme Women: Literacy and Development.
Vice Chancellor Professor Najma Akhtar delivered a very motivational and insightful address at a webinar on ‘Gender Equality today for a Sustainable Tomorrow’ organised by the Central University of Odisha.
She said gender equality is the most important and influential issue in sustainable development. In order to achieve gender equality and a better world, we need to find out what causes gender inequality and work to fix it.
The Department of Political Science, Jamia, organised a symposium to celebrate International Women’s Day. Professor Jyoti Grewal, Dean, School of Arts & Sciences, American University, UAE delivered her lecture on celebrating community:#BreakTheBias and Professor Vibhuti Patel, former head at SNDT Women’s University delivered an insightful lecture on GBV and responses of women’s movement in India. Professor Bulbul Dhar James was the Convener of the programme and Professor Mohd Muslim, Head, Department of Political Science, Jamia, chaired the symposium.
The Department of Sociology, Jamia, organised a panel discussion on the theme gender-based violence.
Dr Beulah Shekhar, Chair Professor of Criminolgy at Loknayak Jayprakash Narayan & National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science (NISFS) and Dr Smita Premchandar, a development consultant of international repute and founder of Sampark.
The discussion was chaired by Professor Manish Tripathy, Head, Department of Sociology and moderated by Professor Savyasaachi, Department of Sociology, Jamia.
The Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE), Jamia, organised a discussion titled ‘Breaking Shackles and Defeating Odds – the Women Entrepreneurs of Jamia’. Ms Sana Sharif, Founder, The Begining Foundation and Ms Sonia Swaroop Choksi, CEO and Co-Founder, MatchMy(Talent) were the speakers.
The AJK MCRC, Jamia, organised an Illustrated Talk by Professor Sabeena Gadihoke on ‘Sisters, Cameras and Amateur Photography: Debalina Mazumdar and Mnobina Roy”.
Nishat Farooq, former Director, State Resource Centre, Jamia, Professor Heena K Bijli, School of Continuing Education, IGNOU and Dr Nivedita Narain, CEO, Charities Aid Foundation were the eminent speakers. Professor Shikha Kapoor, Head, DACEE chaired and moderated the webinar.
