According to social media posts, several Okhla leaders, including MLA Amanatullah Khan, attended his namaz-e-janaza at ITO today.

In a photo shared by Amanatullah Khan on his timeline Ashu Khan can be seen also standing at the front row with Khan and others.

Large number of people in Okhla are from Bihar and among them there are many from Siwan, the district from where Mohammad Shahabuddin belonged to.

Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav offered his condolences. “The untimely death of former MP Mohammad Shahabuddin due to coronavirus is a painful news,” Yadav tweeted. “…His death is a huge loss for the party. RJD stands in support of his bereaved family.”

He died of Covid-19 at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital here on Saturday, the Delhi Prisons Department said, as reported by NDTV, adding that Mohammad Shahabuddin, who was serving a life sentence for murder at the Tihar Jail, was diagnosed with COVID-19 on April 20.

Prison officials said Shahabuddin was admitted to the ICU two-three days ago. The former Siwan MP was lodged in high-security jail number 2 at Tihar, they said, reported NDTV.

After his deaths words spread in the virtual world in Okhla that the former Siwan MP would be laid to rest in Shaheen Bagh graveyard but the information turned out to be fake after many wrote on the social media sharing photo of his son who was trying to take the body to his father’s hometown in Siwan.

Mohammad Shahabuddin was shifted to Tihar from Siwan jail following a Supreme Court order on February 15, 2018, reported NDTV.
