On the chand night ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, mehndi artistes in Okhla cashed in on the huge demand for their skill by charging exorbitant rates. Many girls, who visited NFC Community tonight, for getting mehndi said, as there is huge rush the artistes are demanding huge money.

Another girl, who returned from the NFC disheartened as she was asked Rs 1,600 for applying mehndi on both hands, said on the condition of anonymity that there was a mad rush and the artistes are asking a lot. In normal days the charge is Rs 300, she said.

Another girl, who got mehndi in a local parlour, said she paid just Rs 300 and certainly the price is too high as I was told by my friends. If many paid to get mehndi applied some even returned.

During Eid, it is old tradition that on the chand night girls do apply mehndi. Earlier, they used to do it in house but now with parlours and artistes surfacing in places many prefer them to get good profession design, said another girl, who got mehdi from a local place in Okhla this time around. With Eid being celebrated after a hiatus of two years since the surfacing of Covid pandemic, residents are celebrating the festival without any restriction in Okhla and across the country with the festival to be held on Tuesday.
