Delhi a step close to MCD elections
After the MHA issued final gazette notification for delimitation of Delhi wards, it has paved way for civic polls in the Capital. The 800-page gazette notification by MHA stated that the number of municipal wards in Delhi will now be 250. Earlier when the MCD was trifurcated, Delhi used to have 272 wards before the reunification.
Municipal elections in the city are due since April this year. Before the reunification, the MCD was ruled by the BJP for three terms. Now, all parties, including the AAP, Congress and BJP have started preparations for the polls. In Okhla, too political aspirants and leaders would begin their campaign to win hearts and minds of the voters.
The delimitation committee submitted to the Centre its final report on redrawing the wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday, official sources said.
