Is ex-Cong MLA Asif planning to launch his daughter in MCD polls?

Is former Congress MLA Asif Md Khan planning to launch his daughter in MCD polls? This and other questions are being debated in Okhla circle after the seat was declared reserved for women.

When the OT asked Khan over phone whether he plans to launch his daughter in the MCD elections after the seats in two wards, Zakir Nagar and Abul Fazal Enclave, were reserved for women, he neither said yes or no. It is too early to answer your question and wait till the poll dates are announced, he said.

Many political observers strongly feel that the way Khan has become very active in the last few days shows he has plans to grab limelight so that he could play an important role in the upcoming MCD elections and in the locality as well.

The buzz in the locality is that Khan might launch his daughter from Zakir Nagar ward or AFE. A lot will depend on from where Shoaib Danish will contest election, said one resident who is well aware of the development after many male candidates’ dream of becoming Councillors were dashed with the wards being reserved for women.

When asked by Danish whether he would launch his wife or daughter from the ward, he said it is too early and meetings are being held to decide his next move.

Both Khan and Danish are keeping their cards close to their hearts, said observers on the condition of anonymity, adding that chances are high that Khan might launch his daughter this time around to keep himself alive in Okhla politics.

Khan has been without power for the last seven years and his supporters fear that his popularity might diminish over a period of time and it might become difficult for him politically to stay alive for the next Delhi Assembly election which is years away. Also, Khan is facing stiff challenge from highly ambitious Congress youth leaders who want to grab his position, said observers.
