Najma among 3 ladies in Jamia history who played key roles in progress of Jamia since inception: Jamia Teachers’ body
Padma Shri Prof Najma Akhtar is among the three ladies in the history of Jamia Millia Islamia who played key roles in the progress of the institution since its inception, said JTA Secretary Dr Irfan Qureshi while felicitating the Vice Chancellor days ago at Ansari Auditorium after Najma was awarded with Padma Shri.
The other two are Bi Amma and Gerda Philisborn, said Qureshi, adding that under the dynamic leadership of Prof Akhtar the university improved its performance at all levels. “A++ accreditation from NAAC, 6th rank in NIRF and improvement in other national and international rankings are some of the prominent achievements to her credit,” he said.
The Vice Chancellor during her address said: “I am overwhelmed by the honour and love that I have received here through the grand and inspiring felicitations on the occasion of my Padma Award. I am very proud to have been among you as colleague. I feel beholden to every member of JTA, though I know I can’t repay the due I owe.”
Najma was presented with bouquet of flowers by the executive committee members of JTA, representatives of all the Faculties & Centres of the university and others.
Prof Majid Jameel, Secretary, Prof. Nafis Ahmad, Vice President, Dr Saiqa Ikram, Joint Secretary and other members of the executive committee of the JTA formally welcomed the Vice Chancellor on the dais.
Former Vice Chancellor of JMI Syed Shahid Mahdi presided over the function which was attended by the Registrar, JMI, Prof Nazim Husain Al-Jafri and faculty members in large number. Former teachers of JMI including Padma Shri Prof Akhtar Wasey, PVC Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University Prof Rehan K Suri, Siraj Qureshi and other important guests also attended the function.
Also, the JASA and SRK Staff Association jointly organised the felicitation programe.
