Watch: Security stepped up at Jamia after Jahangirpuri incident, now it’s clear
Security was stepped up in Jamia Nagar and at Jamia Millia Islamia after Jahangirpuri incident, according to YouTuber Rizwan Khan who even did a live from the spot.
However, a resident who went to the spot a few minutes before the filing of this report said there was no police outside the university as it was all clear.
Policemen were seen at Jamia’s main gate a few minutes ago and also police were taking rounds in the locality after report surfaced in the media about clashes during Hanuman Jayanti procession in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri.
Khan said in the video that security has been upped in the locality following Jahangirpuri incident. Later on he told the OT over phone that it was patrolling to instill confidence among the residents. Top officials, including Additional DCP, ACP and SHOs, were available on the spot. The patrolling started from Jamia Millia Islamia gate number 7 and went in the locality with police taking stock of the situation in Shaheen Bagh, Abul Fazal Enclave and other areas, said Khan, adding that later on the force went to Holy Family and then to New Friends’ Colony.
The OT independently could not verify the reason behind sudden increase in police force outside the university campus. A call to Jamia Chief Proctor went unattended.
Once the OT gets university reaction it will be uploaded here.
Following the security outside campus, many residents expressed their concern over the development with some fearing that some untoward incident has taken place on the campus. Some even talked about it on the social media expressing their curiosity to know the reason behind the security beefing up in the locality.
However, residents heaved a sigh of relief when they came to now that everything was normal and it was a patrolling.
