Jamia Hamdard (Government Aided Deemed to be University) celebrated the 117th Birth Anniversary of its illustrious founder, Late Hakeem Abdul Hameed, with great reverence and enthusiasm on September 16, 2025, at 11:30 AM at the Hamdard Convention Centre, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi. The event paid homage to the visionary legacy of Hakeem Abdul Hameed, whose enduring contributions continue to inspire generations.

The celebration was graced by the esteemed presence of Padma Vibhushan Dr. Karan Singh, Former Member of Rajya Sabha, renowned philosopher, statesman, and visionary, who served as the Chief Guest for the occasion. The event was held under the patronage of the Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, Hammad Ahmed.

The programme commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by Jamia Hamdard Tarana, setting a solemn and uplifting tone for the proceedings.

Prof. Reshma Nasreen, Dean Student Welfare (DSW), delivered the welcome address, eloquently reflecting on the significance of the occasion and reiterating the university’s commitment to the ideals and vision of its founder.

The highlight of the event was the Hakeem Abdul Hameed Memorial Lecture 2025, delivered by the Chief Guest, Dr. Karan Singh, on the theme “Four Pillars of Learning.” Dr. Singh began by sharing his fond memories of Hakeem Abdul Hameed and then delved into the UNESCO-conceptualised framework comprising:

Learning to Know, Learning to Do, Learning to Live Together and Learning to Be

These four pillars, he emphasised, form a holistic approach to education and lifelong learning. His insightful lecture captivated the audience and offered valuable perspectives on the importance of integrating these pillars into modern education for fostering well-rounded human development.

Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, spoke passionately about the relevance of Founder’s Day in reaffirming the university’s dedication to its core values. He highlighted the significance of the lecture theme, explaining how the integration of cognitive development (Learning to Know), practical skills (Learning to Do), social harmony (Learning to Live Together), and personal growth (Learning to Be) reflects a transformative approach to education that transcends traditional academic boundaries.

The event was attended by several distinguished dignitaries, including Col. Tahir Mustafa, Registrar; Sajid Ahmed, CEO and Secretary, Hamdard National Foundation (HECA); S.S. Akhtar, Controller of Examinations; Hena Parveen; Deans, Heads of Departments, senior officials, faculty members, and students of Jamia Hamdard.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Col. Tahir Mustafa, Registrar, who expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all dignitaries, guests, faculty, staff, and students for their presence and contribution to the event’s success.

The event concluded with the rendition of the National Anthem, marking the end of a memorable and inspiring celebration.
