Jamia maintains its rank in London based Times Higher Education World University Rankings-2021, improves position among Indian Institutions

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) is among the very few academic institutions from India which has not only maintained its position globally but has also improved its rank among Indian Institutions assessed by the London bases Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2021 released today.

As per THE data, JMI improved its rank from 19th to 12th this year among Indian Institutions and globally it has maintained its rank between 601-800 band. JMI improved its performance despite increase in total number of International and Indian Institutions assessed by the ranking agency.

A total of 1527 institutions from 93 countries were assessed by THE in comparison to 1400 institutions from 92 countries last year. Number of Indian Institutions also increased to 63 from 56 assessed last year by the agency.

Vice-Chancellor, JMI, Prof. Najma Akhtar expressed her happiness over the consistent improvement and sustained performance of the university in national and international rankings.

Prof. Akhtar said that the performance reflects JMI’s growing international presence and outreach besides its impetus on high quality research, publications and teaching. She hoped that the university will improve its performance that would increase its ranking further.

THE World University Rankings 2021 has considered five parameters: Teaching (30%), Research (30%), Citations (30%), Industry Income (2.5%) and International Outlook (7.5%) for assessing the performance of universities.

Earlier, JMI has also retained its position in the coveted Quacquarelli Symonds (QS)  World University Ranking at 751-800 band with its research intensity been described as ‘very high”. The ranking was released last June.

JMI was ranked at 10th position in the country by Ministry of Education’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF-2020).
