Renowned 86-year-old Muslim scholar Jalaluddin Umri honoured
Renowned Muslim scholar, 86-year-old Jalaluddin Umri was honoured with “Shah Waliullah Award” on Sunday. The award has been instituted by the Institute of Objective Studies to honour eminent scholars who have done outstanding work in Social Sciences, Humanities, Law and Islamic Studies.

The award started in 199 is in the form of a cash of one lakh rupees, memento, shawl and a scroll of honour containing citation which is given annually to the best scholar of the year.
The scheme is administered by an independent Board which nominates a Panel of Experts consisting of eminent scholars to identify and recommend the scholar to be honoured. The subject or the field of the Award is decided by the Board for each year. The first Shah Waliullah Award (1999) was conferred posthumously on Maulana Syed Abul Hasan Ali Hassani Nadvi, popularly known as Maulana Ali Mian, on November 3, 2000. Since then several people have won the award.
Jalaluddin Umri, is former Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind from 2007-2019, and resides in Dawat Nagar in Abul Fazal Enclave.
Born in 1935 in a village called Puttagram, District of North Arcot, Tamil Nadu, soft spoken Jalaluddin Umri is a well known Muslim scholar. Author of sever books in Urdu, Jalaluddin Umri is considered, among the Muslim circles, an authority on human rights and Muslim family system.
