Renowned 86-year-old Muslim scholar Jalaluddin Umri recovers, returns home, but loses wife to Covid

Renowned Muslim scholar, 86-year-old Jalaluddin Umri, rumoured to be dead a few days ago in the virtual world returns back from his hospital to his house in Abul Fazal Enclave two days ago, according to his follower.

However, Jalaluddin Umri, former Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind from 2007-2019, during his 13-day hospitalisation in Al Shifa Hospital, lost his wife Shahzadi Beghum, 80, to Covid.

Born in 1935 in a village called Puttagram, District of North Arcot, Tamil Nadu, soft spoken Jalaluddin Umri was hospitalised after suffering from Covid-like symptoms. But his RT-PCR report was negative, said Inam Ur Rahman, adding that he continued to get treatment and was discharged from the hospital two days ago.

“But in CT scan a mild infection in his lungs was found. His oxygen level was stable throughout treatment period,” he said.

Now he is back to his house in Dawat Nagar, AFE, said Inam who from time to time has been updating about his health progress on his timeline.

It was Inam, who a few days ago, busted the fake news doing the rounds about the death of Jalaluddin Umri.

The OT also ran a story (April 5) claiming that the Muslim scholar was alive. Author of sever books in Urdu, Jalaluddin Umri is considered, among the Muslim circles, an authority on human rights and Muslim family system.

As somebody who used to deliver Friday Khutba from the Ishate-E-Islam mosque in AFE, he was a popular figure among those who visited the mosque for Friday prayer.

Jalaluddin Umri has four children, including two sons and 2 daughters.
