Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari, former Ameer of Jamaat, passed away a few minutes ago at Al Shifa hospital on Friday after prolong illness.

He died at Al Shifa Hospital at around 8.30 pm today. His Nemaz-e-Janaza prayer will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday at the JIH Markaz mosque (Masjid Ishat-e-Islam), Abul Fazal Enclave.

He was 87 years old.

Jalaluddin Umari used to reside in Dawat Nagar in Abul Fazal Enclave. He was admitted to hospital seven days ago and he passed away today, said Inam-ur-Rehman, Assistant Secretary, JIH.

Born in 1935 in a village called Puttagram, District of North Arcot, Tamil Nadu, soft spoken Jalaluddin Umari is a well known Muslim scholar. Author of sever books in Urdu, Jalaluddin Umari is considered, among the Muslim circles, an authority on human rights and Muslim family system.

Jalaluddin Umari was a towering leader of Tahreek-e Islami, renowned author and famous speaker. His famous books on academic subjects have been published in almost all major languages of India and become popular. His books have also been translated into English, Arabic and Turkish languages.

Earlier, Maulana Umari was Vice President of Indian Muslims’ united and umbrella body All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Founder Member of Muslim Majlis-e Mushawarat and held higher positions in various national and international institutions.

Maulana had attended several international conferences. He was chairman of Idara-e-Tahqueequ-o-Tasneef-e-Islami and Editor of Islamic research journal Tehqeeqat-e-Islami.

He completed Alimiat and fazilat (Masters in Islamic studies) from Jamia Darussalam, Omerabad, Tamil Nadu. He obtained his baccalaureate (Munshi Fazil) in Persian from the Madras University. He also received a B.A (English) from Aligarh Muslim University.

In 2021, his wife died from Covid.
