“Extremely humbled to have received The Laadli Media Awards supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in the investigative category for a story on the Hathras gangrape and murder case of 2020. The Hathras case is close to my heart as the victim herself was a young woman like me. Thank you Laadli for recognising my work,” she wrote on her timeline a few hours ago soliciting congratulatory comments from across the country.

Former NDTV journalist and founder of popular crowdfunding portal ourdemocracy.in, Bilal Zaidi, wrote on his timeline: “Ismat is without doubt the most promising rising star of journalism in India. So proud of your journey so far!”

Ismat is currently reporter at thewire.in. She went to Hamdard Public School and studied calligraphy and journalism at AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia.

The Laadli is an award given for gender sensitivity in the fields of media and advertising, reported thewire.in.
