The demand for herbal medicines has gone up in the last few days, said a chemist store owner. Residents are asking for Joshanda, an age-old remedy made from several single herbs, he said.

“Three days ago I couldn’t place an order as there was shortage and all my Joshanda packets were sold. Yesterday I got ten packets of Joshanda. I have observed that in the last ten days its demand has gone up at my shop,” said the owner, who himself is using Joshanda to overcome sore throat and fever caused by cold.

He said he used allopathic medicine as well like majority of the residents.

“Joshanda is good for cough and it should be used as this herbal medicine has been successfully in use for over 2000 years. It can be used by everyone in the family, at all times and throughout seasons,” said Unani physician Syed Ubaidus Salam.

Another chemist store owner, Nizam of Khidmat Dawakhana said, as cases of sore throat has increased people are asking for Joshanda. “Actually the weather is changing and during this period people use Joshanda as tea to overcome minor cough ailments. Now it is in demand throughout the year,” he said.

Naeem Raza, who runs Makkah Medicos in the area, said: “My experience says it is good for sore throat and cough. And for many local residents herbal medicine has now become first choice.”
