Okhla in grip of heatwave, IMD predicts no relief for Delhi for next 6 days, mercury to touch 43°C this week

The soaring temperature in Delhi is giving hard times to residents. The India Meteorological Department said on Tuesday that heat wave spell is to stay for at least 6 days.

The maximum temperature at the Safdarjung Observatory, considered the official marker for the city, is expected to touch the 40-degree mark on Wednesday and soar to 42 degrees Celsius by Friday.

The mercury will soar to 43 degrees Celsius by Saturday in the national capital, the weather department said in its latest forecast.

IMD officials said a prolonged dry spell has led to “severe” hot weather conditions in northwest India.

“The heatwave spell likely is to continue over most parts of Northwest India and Madhya Pradesh during the next five days,” officials said.

“Over the country as a whole, the average maximum temperature (33.10 degrees Celsius) recorded in March 2022 is the highest ever in the last 122 years,” the IMD said.
