Watch: Thanks to this man, Batla House graveyard getting a facelift after 20 years

After 20 years, Batla House graveyard is getting a facelift. And the work of laying cemented seat, CCTV and road inside the graveyards with tiles is going on. On Shab-e-Barat, several workers were seen working so that the work could be finished on time.

When contacted, the person who is spending according to some rough estimates more than million of rupees, requested OT not to mention his name in the story.

He told the OT that he was just trying to provide basic facility in the graveyard so that people who come with their near and dear to the area don’t face hardship when the weather is harsh and at least elderly should get place to sit.

He said automatic pipe laying work is to be done so that trees can get water on time.

Several residents appreciated the move. “It was much awaited work. This is something that should have been done from MLA, MP and Councillor funds but it is good and also sad to see that somebody has decided to take care of the old graveyard by providing basic amenities here,” said Syed Fouzul Ahmed.

Another Batla House resident Waseem Khan said earlier there used to be only dust and with the road being build of tiles things will improve. The installation of CCTV cameras inside the graveyard will certainly discourage drug addicts from hiding her and the area will become safe at night, he said.

The graveyard has shade, seats and wazu khana at the entrance which was built by a Zakir Nagar trader Javed Malik owner of Malik Electronics years ago after his father’s death.
