Congress leader Gentle Hedayatullah provided financial aid to 25-year-old Talib father, he said on Monday. Talib was lynched in fight over gulli danda in Batla House a few days ago, leading to arrest of some accused and filing of FIR. The incident is under probe.

By extending a helping hand to Talib father, Gentle has become the second Congress leader in Okhla to do so.

Earlier, Zakir Nagar Councillor Shoaib Danish was the first leader in Okhla to give Rs 50,000 to Talib family, promising free legal help to the family. Later on Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan called Talib father Babu Khan and his daughter to his house and offered Rs 5 lakh and a job to his daughter in Waqf Board-aided school in Batla House.

In the video uploaded on his timeline, Gentle is heard saying he won’t reveal the amount to the public.

The death of Talib sparked political slugfest in the locality with Congress leaders, including former Okhla MLA Asif Md Khan, targeting the MLA and AAP for doing little to address the concern of the family. In the video, Gentle is heard slamming the MLA for not visiting the house of the victim and rather calling the family members to his house, terming it insensitive.

The AAP has defended its action over the issue claiming that the Congress is politicising the issue to gain lost grounds as MCD election 2022 is slated for April. The date is yet to be announced.

Councillor Danish said the compensation is nothing and the job should be given in government school and not in in aided. He accused the MLA of not expressing remorse over the lynching of Talib in Batla House and posted nothing on his social media handle.
