UGC-HRDC, JMI organises one-week online workshop on Gender Studies

A one-week online workshop on Gender Studies for University and College teachers started today by the UGC-Human Resource Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia which will continue till 1st September, 2020.

The objective of the workshop is to focus on how to overcome the gender issues in COVID-19 situation, a matter of everybody’s concern today. Taking these concerns into view, many related issues and challenges regarding gender will be discussed in the one-week course.

Prof Najma Akhtar, Vice-Chancellor, JMI was the Chief Guest and Dr Archana Thakur, Joint Secretary, UGC was the Guest of Honour in the inaugural session. The function was attended by 70 participants, faculty and several resource persons from different parts of the country.

Prof Anisur Rahman, Director, UGC- Human Resource Development, JMI welcomed the Chief Guest , the Guest of Honour and other dignitaries including delegates and briefed about the significance of the workshop on Gender Studies. He also outlined themes and subthemes which will be discussed extensively by scholars during the week-long workshop.

Prof Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, JMI and the Chief Guest of the function underlined several important points related to gender issues.

Prof. Akhtar said that women constitute almost half the population of the earth, yet they do not have enough economic,political or even social strength to safeguard their basic human rights. Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.

She congratulated Prof. Anisur Rahman for hosting the course; where the resource persons are a combination of academicians from all over the country.

Dr Archana Thakur presented wonderful data concerning women issues and shared some schemes and programmes relating to education of women.
