Rising plume from fire spreads anxiety across Okhla, with university staff in Jamia Millia Islamia expressing their concern.
A university teacher said the plume from the fire could be seen from Jamia, sparking debate among students and teachers: “Where did the fire take place and what really happen?”
As word started spreading in the locality, resident Mohd Faheem went live on his Facebook to clear the confusion over the fire.
Another netizen wrote: “Fire at construction site of Delhi Mumbai Highway between Okhla and Abdul Fazal Enclave.”
Before that, some residents said there was a fire in Batla House. However, Batla House resident Md Waseem Khan said the fire was at a construction site nearby Delhi Mumbai Highway in Abdul Fazal Enclave.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Also, it is not know whether the fire was in the garbage or somewhere else.
Four fire tenders were rushed to Jamia Nagar after some plastic pipes caught fire, the DFS officials said. No casualties were reported, the Delhi Fire Services official said.
“A call was received at 1.25 pm regarding some plastic pipes that caught fire in the Jamia Nagar area. Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames,” the official said.
The blaze was doused by 2.15 pm, he said. The DFS official had earlier said that the fire broke out in a commercial building.
As the smoke was billowing from the spot many thought that and even wrote that fire breaks out at spot close by the Delhi Mumbai Highway.
