4-hour power cut adds to Shaheen Bagh residents’ winter woes

Four-hour power outage has added to residents of Shaheen Bagh A block in bone chilling cold. A resident said from 11 to 3 pm we faced hardship as there was power cut. With cold wave there is need to power and without it life was difficult in the morning as residents of our block were unable to do important work, said Shaheen Bagh resident Kaneez Fatima.

With Delhi in the grip of cold wave, power demands in the national Capital going up with many residents banking on heater to warm them up.

Fatima said she was unable to do anything this morning and called the newly-elected Councillor Ariba Khan to inform her about the situation at 2.50 pm.

“Thank Allah after ten minutes the power was back,” she said. The reason for power cut was not known. When asked, a male family member of Fatima said had it been for maintenance reason we would have got SMS message.

It was in December only when Capital’s peak power demand clocked 4,803 MW as mercury has started plummeting.

“Green power will play an important role in meeting the power demand in the BSES areas in the winter months. Apart from the long-term agreements with power-plants, including hydro and Delhi-based gas fuel-generating stations, the BSES is also receiving 840 MW of solar power from SECI, 439 MW of wind power…,” a BSES official said in a statement then as quoted in the media.

“It is also being helped by 127 MW of rooftop solar power installed on rooftops in South, West, East and Central Delhi,” he added.
